BOYS Carroll junior shies away from role of 5A favorite

Colby Lowe would appear to be the favorite to win Saturday's Class 5A state cross country meet in Round Rock.

The Southlake Carroll junior is undefeated this season and has won half of his races by more than 20 seconds. Lowe won last week's 5A Region I meet, and earlier this year he beat the winners of the state's other three 5A regional meets. Only three runners – defending 5A state champion Duncan Phillips of A&M Consolidated, Carroll teammate C.J. Brown and Alex Neff of The Woodlands – have finished less than 11 seconds behind Lowe in a race this season.
