ROUND ROCK - It's lucky No. 13 for The Woodlands.

The Highlanders boys cross country team won its 13th state title Saturday at Old Settler's Park with a score of 58, 18 points ahead of second-place Southlake Carroll.

"We came in here today knowing that if we stuck together and tried our best that we could win this thing," The Woodlands coach Dan Green said.

The Woodlands came into the meet ranked No. 1 in the state in the coaches poll and was trying to erase the memory of an eighth-place finish last year.

"The ride home last year after state was dismal," Green said. "At The Woodlands, we have turned into a really strong program, and finishing that low was uncharacteristic."
