Preseason XC Countdown: Girls #11

Texas MileSplit is counting down the 12 days until the first full weekend of cross country meets. Each day we will highlight one boys team and one girls team, with the idea that they are "programs to watch" for the upcoming season. This series is not intended to be a true ranking of the top 12 teams in the state overall, but instead an opportunity to highlight schools that have had strong recent success or have lots of talent returning for this fall.

The team with the best returning 2 Mile times in the state isn't in the UIL, and might be in the middle of a long title streak.

Ursuline Academy has the best returning 2 Mile times of any school in the state, regardless of classification. Despite that, the Bears will have a battle on their hands in attempting to earn a third consecutive TAPPS 5A championship, as Antonian has the second-best returning 2 Mile times of any school in the state. Still, Ursuline has won the last two team titles, and the champs are always the team to beat until they're beaten (at least in my eyes). Only one runner graduated from last year's squad, and the projected top 7 for 2014 also has only one senior, so these Bears could be around for a while. With Kate Patrick running under 11:30 during the spring season, the upcoming edition of the Ursuline girls could be the strongest yet.
