Tank Tuesday: Texas Relays Prep

3/16/15-Monday

Workout: AM, 15min w/u, 150-450-450-150-150 @800 pace, 15min c/d. PM, 1mile w/u, 4x300, 30min c/d.

Mileage: 11 miles

Coach had to leave for an afternoon appointment so we put in some quality work in the AM and PM workouts. Ran all of these at or below 1:56 pace and felt really strong. I'm feeling better and better on all of my workouts, but just haven't had a chance to run in a meet yet. My time is coming soon though.

3/17/15-Tuesday

Workout: 54min easy run

Mileage: 8 miles

I ran after school with my good friends Monty and Marley Russell who runs at Kansas now. We ran a bit up tempo in the park, but overall felt really good. This school week has been really long, really long…. And when your teachers give you that “week back from spring break" test… It's not Bueno.

3/18/15-Wednesday

Workout: AM, 15min w/u, 3x1mile, 13min c/d. PM, 45min run

Mileage: 13 miles

Put in some really quality work and mileage in the morning today. Mile repeats are always a tough workout to do solo and you have to be mentally strong that last 800. They were tough, but not too hard. Money in the bank. In the afternoon I ran with my good buddy, Jack Monday, son of Rose Monday who you remember is coaching Laura Roesler. Jack also runs at West Point. Also ran with Marley again. We ran in the park and then went to Jack's house to get some burgers and soak in the hot tub for a bit. It was a good time to relax and even though I have a test tomorrow, the night was worth it.

3/19/15-Thursday

Workout: Off

Mileage: 0 miles

Ended up going to Marley's house after school because we didn't have practice. Instead of doing another shake out run like we should have, we spent 2 hours at the little kid's park hitting some sick trick shots. I'm pretty sure Dude Perfect is going to call us up from the D-leagues soon and we'll make it big time. We have our meet on Saturday at Medina Valley and I'll be doing the 3200-1600. Really jealous of those kids running at the Jesuit Sheaner Meet though. Ball is life.

3/20/15-Friday

Workout: AM, 5min w/u, 8x100 buildups, 30min c/d. PM, 25min easy run

Mileage: 9 miles

In the morning we just got our legs moving a bit with the strides and then had a nice run afterwards. After school, I ran with Monty and Marley again and we did a couple of upper loops and then stretched. Tomorrow doesn't look too good for the meet as we're supposed to get 6-8in of rain. Field events have already been canceled…. Having 2 meets already canceled this season I'll be frustrated if it's a third. Shout out to Bryce Balenseifen for pr'ing in the 3200 at the Sheaner meet. Toates jealous of them.

3/21/15-Saturday

Workout: Tempo cut down

Mileage: 7 miles

Woke up at 5am for the track meet, but when I got to the school I was notified that our 3rd meet had gotten canceled.

I went to the UTSA Classic instead and got to see a bunch of my old HS friends race: Robert Ohr, Chris Pietraszkiewicz, Monty Bertschy, Todd Mickey, Estaban Villapando, Steven Galli, Logan Pittman, and the list goes on. Haha, even got to see and talk to Carter Blunt's brother who runs at Texas Tech, nice guy. Oh yeah, and I got to see Laura Roesler and Dana Mecke run the 800 so it was a good day.

Anyways, I ran on the track for this entire tempo with Marley and Monty. They stopped after 4 miles. I ran 6:20's and cut down to 5:20's and felt pretty good overall. It was tough, but not too hard. Solid workout instead of my race. The hardest part about these workouts is mentally, physically it is tough, but you have to be mentally strong.

3/22/15-Sunday

Workout: Off day

Mileage: 0 miles

Frustrated. This season has been extremely unique and frustrating that I haven't gotten a chance to run well yet. With TX Relays coming up I am going to have to just trust in my training since I haven't been able to race hard yet. Physically I am feeling really good and believe I can run low 4:10's on Friday. We'll see how this week of training goes leading up to my big race of the season.

Week Mileage: 49 miles

Week in Review: Another great week of training, I am able to see how my I'm progressing in my workouts even though I can't see the same progress in my races. I'm an getting really anxious to run well seeing how other guys in the state are straight balling and putting up some really solid times. Just have to be patient, trust in my coach, training, and myself, and go kill it at TX Relays. Even if that doesn't go well, State is what matters and that's where I'm putting all my chips in. However, win or lose, good or bad, I'll give all the glory to Him.
