Salute To Seniors: Chris Winski

Chris Winski - Morton Ranch

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable race was the cross country regional meet this year as that was the best that I ran all season. I placed 14th and my team mate and I punched our tickets to the state meet. I will never forget the look on my coach's face when I finished that race.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Throughout my high school running career I've run against some great competitors but my biggest

competition has been all the runners in my district who have constantly pushed me to become the great runner that I am today.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was when I competed at the regional track meet this year and got gold in the 3200 and the 1600. Not many runners finish first in both those distances so to be one of the few to make stare in both was a major accomplishment.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would not change a single thing as I have no regrets about how I competed throughout high school and I couldn't have asked for a better four years.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The biggest obstacle I faced came last December when I fractured my right ankle while playing football with my friends. I have just completed a record breaking cross country season and I barely competed in track as I has to start as square one.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss all my awesome supportive teammates who have been with me throughout everything and I'll also miss the awesome catching staff who without a doubt are the best in the world.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

I would tell younger athletes that it's not easy to be great but if you put forth commitment and dedication that it will all be worth it when you have that gold medal hanging around your neck.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals? Coach Siemers has forever changed my life and I will never forget him. He has shown me that it is more than just running. Running is a gift and it needs to be celebrated every time as some people are incapable of experiencing the beauty that is accompanied with running.

What are your college plans? I will be running cross country and track for the University of the Incarnate Word next year.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank my parents for all the support and all the times they would wake up early to drive me to practice or go to a meet. At the same time, I would like to thank my teammates and coach for pushing me to become stronger.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I would just like to say that my best high school moments were experienced while running for Morton Ranch and hard work pays off.

What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

I had the most fun when we were up at Austin for the state track meet and all the laughs that we had while eating out.
