Week #8

Monday

Today was a good day. This morning I ran my 8 mile tempo and I felt great. I ran for 50 min, and my splits were good all the way up to mile 6. 6& 7 were my worst but then I came back and finished hard.

Splits: 6:50 6:42 6:30 6:13 5:58 6:14 6:08 5:55

I ended my run total with 12 miles. 2 for warmup and 2 for cool down. Today my parents told me I would be able to quit today. I was so happy. I could enjoy the rest of my summer and focus more on my training. Before I went in to work though I played a volleyball game with some friends and before I went in I got a call from Coach Reed. Saying he is not returning to coach Commerce Xc anymore. He took a job at a Plano school. I knew he was a good coach for me. He was young and understood that I was injury prone and he took care of me. This brought back memories from high school when I first started running. After my first season of running cross. Our head coach, Coach Posey was going to take another Job at Baylor. Not to coach or anything. It was sad but then we got a new coach and now she's one of my favorite people to go to. Coach Posey was a good coach he understood the basics and knew how to get you in shape. I felt bad for people on my team like Ricky and Hunter, both runners that were close to him. Ricky was closer to him than any of us, I think they ran together when Ricky was a freshman. Not sure though. Anyways the run was good and it was a good day. I got to quit my job, but my coach is leaving.

Tuesday

Today was my recovery run. It was needed, I was a good recovery run. I did 8 miles, 55 minutes. I was a little sore not gonna lie, but I was feeling good. It was a relaxed run at around 6:50 pace. I did the run with Charlie and we had good talks and I was telling him how Coach Reed leaving reminded me of our first year of running. Me and Charlie joined cross country around the same time. We were laughing at how we got Into cross. It was a great run and we ran during sunset, into the night. Very beautiful as well.

Wednesday

This morning I had hills so, I did my basic warm up and stuff. Instead of going to las lamas I went to Harry Meyers with Charlie. This place has a 5k cross country course and was known for its hills. They weren't big but they were decent. Me and Charlie found a hill that was 15 seconds of incline. We ran that 10 times. We pretty much raced up to the top. It was fun and I'm glad I decided to go with him. We saw two Cross country teams out there. Rockwall and our old team. It was good seeing both since one was our team and we raced Rockwall a lot. The hills workout was good. I was feeling real good and strong. After the hills we did our 2 mile cool down and headed back to where we parked. Later I went to the high school to do a much needed ice bath.

Thursday

Today I did my medium/ long run day. It was actually very lonely. Charlie didn't run with me and I didn't have anyone else to run with . I did 75 min and actually was feeling decent. I was around 6:55-7:05 pace the whole run. The decent feeling was pretty good. My calf bothered me a little bit but not enough for me to do anything. I ended up icing after and made it a better run.

Friday

Speed day! It's a good day, I woke up this morning early. Just so I can do a run under the stadium lights. I arrived too late. I did get to see the sunrise though. My workout was a 30 min with stretching and drills after. With 6 strides(150m) and 4-6 of 60m accelerations at 95%. I had full recovery after each accelerating j was feeling good. I talked to my hurdle coach before I spiked up. All he was talking about is my old spikes that are torn up from one track season. I told him I got new ones I'm just saving them. It made me feel ready for racing. I can Not wait to be racing. I'm nervous but excited.

Saturday

LONG RUN! I've been waiting for this day. My friend Connor, told me about this 9 mile dirt trail in Royse City. I decided to try it out with Charlie. It was a dirt road, then it got sandy, and then more dirt, as well as some mud. I was surprised how much sand and mud there was. Running through those drained so much out of me though. I had to slow down just so I would be able to finish the run. Unfortunately Charlie had to be back in Forney at a certain time. So it was either finish the run and find someone to drive out there and give me a ride home or go with him and finish the run later. By the time we got back in Forney it was too hot to finish. So I had to wait till the night to do the run. Luckily with my older watch, I paused the run, turned off the gps and that night I could pick back up. I picked the run back up and got 14 miles in. Within 100 min as well I was real tired, and feeling dead. After the run I went to workout mainly did abs and then went to go swim at my best friends house.

Week in review

This week was definitely something different. I didn't have a coach to ask what to do or what the workout meant and all that stuff. This reminds me of when I started running. I just started having conversations with Ricky and Hunter about it. I stayed healthy and survived another week. Feeling a little dead, I'm probably going to lower the mileage next week just so I can go into the season with my team fresh. I'm ready to start back racing. It'll be different and definitely an adjustment going from a 5-8k but I'll be ready.
