Anna Elkin Region Race Report: Top-3 Finish and

On Monday we raced at the Regional Meet. We traveled to Lubbock on Sunday so we could get there a day early, go to the course, and just get ready for the race. Going into the race my goal was to get top 3. This was my last region meet so I wanted to make it count and not waste the opportunity. I wasn't really happy with how my district race went so I was really excited to get to race again. Right when the gun went off I was focused on getting up to the front. I had a really good start and for the first part of the race Abby, Ashton, and I were in the lead. Then, at about a mile Ashton & I started to separate a little bit. I really focused on staying with Ashton for the second mile and then tried to make a move on the second loop. I ended up finishing 2nd running 17:17 which I was very happy with. The girls team ended up finishing 4th and qualifying for state. Also, congrats to Drew Cummings who qualified for state as well!

This weekend was a good opportunity for us to see where we are in our training and how we are running against the best competition. I was very happy after the race and all of the girls are excited that we get to race again at state, but, like we always say, state medals weren't handed out Monday. We are all very motivated and know we have lots of work to do before November 7th comes.

Lastly, shoutout to "the view" at the rest stop outside of Weatherford Mile Marker 390 for being so great every year. Making the traditional stop is definitely one of the highlights of the trip and it was very bitter/ sweet seeing the "view" for the last time.
