Anna Elkin Race Report: An Unforgettable State Meet

Lewisville Hebron UIL XC State Championship

This weekend was the STATE MEET!!! For the past 6 months every morning when I filled out my log book I would write the countdown to state so waking up on Saturday and knowing that time capsule was zero was really exciting. Going into the race I had goals based on where I wanted to place but ultimately I just really wanted to run well and have a state meet that I was proud of. We knew the conditions were not ideal but we talked about how to deal with the mud and we were still committed to our race plan. The race didn't go out as hard as I would have liked because of the mud but I really focused on putting myself in the top 10 and staying with the lead pack as long as I could. I ended up placing 5th which I was very happy with. It has been my goal for a really long time to be on the medal stand so to finally accomplish that meant a lot to me.

Also, I'm really proud of Abby for getting 8th place. Getting top 10 has been one of her goals too and it made me really happy that we could accomplish that goal together. The team ended up placing 5th. It was not what we came into the meet wanting to place but I am still extremely proud of the things that we have accomplished this season considering all the adversity that our team has faced this year. It was a little sad running at my last state meet but our season isn't over yet. In a couple of weekends we will be running at Nike South and we all have big individual and team goals. I'm really excited for the races to come.

Lastly since regular season is over, I wanted to give a big thank you to Coach Grennier. I honestly would not be the runner or person I am today without him. He is absolutely the best coach that we could ask for and we owe all of our team & individual success to him. He's actually the best.
