Blake Kuithe Looks To Return To State In 2016!

Katy Cinco Ranch's Blake Kuithe is a young but competitive thrower.  Check out Kuithe's Q and A with TX MileSplit.

TX MileSplit:  You are off to a hot start already, by throwing 59-1.5 at A&M.  That is almost two feet longer than your best toss from last year.  Talk to us about your off season training or your regimen leading into this season.

Blake:  I started throwing a little later this year than last year.  I have been concentrating on getting stronger this season.  I have also been working on my technique.  I grew a little taller, which makes the ring a little smaller.

TX MileSplit:  What was it like throwing 54-9 in your first big meet last year, as a freshman?

Blake:  It was great! Completely unexpected.

TX MileSplit:  You really hit your stride around the district meet, in both the shot put and the discus and by finishing strong at the state meet.  What was it like having the success you were having at big meets, just a freshman?

Blake:  I knew I would compete well because I have been throwing for a few years.  The season had its ups and downs, but I put it together well enough to get to the state meet and finish in the top three.

TX MileSplit:  Talk to us about your relationship with two of your toughest competitors in the state (Adrian Piperi and Gabe Oladipo).

Blake:  We have been competing against each other since the 5th grade.  We are friends outside of the ring and competitors inside the ring.

TX MileSplit:  Now that you're a sophomore, do you still feel like you're young or do you feel like you've grown and matured into an experienced thrower?

Blake:  I still have a lot of work to do.  I'm still younger than most competitors.  I still get nervous, but I am getting more comfortable throwing at the higher levels.

TX MileSplit:  What are your goals for the season?

Blake:  I would like to throw 65' in the shot put and 185' in the discus.  A return trip to the state meet would be nice.

TX MileSplit:  Which is your favorite event, and why?

Blake:  Shot put.  It requires a lot of power and being perfect in the ring.

TX MileSplit:  What areas do you feel you can improve at?

Blake:  My technique could use some improvement.

TX MileSplit:  Pancakes or waffles?

Blake:  Pancakes with a lot of syrup.

TX MileSplit:  Later this year, the new super hero movie Batman vs. Superman comes out.  In your opinion, who wins the battle between the two, and why?

Blake:  Superman.  He has power that Batman does not.  He can fly and has laser vision.

TX MileSplit:  If track and field didn't work out for you, what else would you be doing?

Blake:  If track didn't work out then I would probably play football.  I do both sports and I like both of them.
