Abby Guidry Is Ready To Challenge The Field at The Victor Lopez Classic!

Abby Guidry has had a very strong season already this year and holds one of the best times in the country in the 1600m. This week Guidry will again look to race strong against some of the best girls in the Houston area. Read our Q&A with the Kingwood distance star below!

Texas MileSplit: Which races will you be competing in this weekend? What event are you most excited for at this upcoming meet and why?

Abby Guidry: I'll be running the 3000 and the 1500 this week. It's fun to do these college distances because we get mix things up a bit and prepare ourselves for running them next year! I'm most excited for the 3k because I haven't run the 2 mile yet this season and I'm ready to see my hard work pay off in the longer distance races.

Texas MileSplit: What will it be like having the chance to face off aginst more competition this week than in weeks past?

Abby Guidry: I'm really excited to have the opportunity to race against girls like Khayla Patel before the State meet. It'll be great practice for the championship meets and I'm excited to be pushed by my competitors to run a fast time!

Texas MileSplit: How has training been leading up to this meet/point in the season?

Abby Guidry: Training has been awesome. My performance in practice has shown that I'm improving overall and I hope that it will be reflected in my races throughout the season.

Texas MileSplit: What was it like breaking your school's 4x800m record and already running a U.S. #3 4:53.21 in the 1600m?

Abby Guidry: Both of those races were super fun, exciting, and memorable. Breaking the 4x8 record was a wonderful experience to share with my teammates, and I'm really thankful to be on such an awesome team! Also running my mile PR early on got me really excited for the rest of the season, and gave me more confidence in my abilities.

Texas MileSplit: What are your goals for this weekend?

Abby Guidry: My goals for this weekend are less based on time and more based on my performance against the field. I hope to stay at the front and challenge both myself and my competitors in both races.
