Summer Training Blog Abbey Santoro Week 7

Monday 8/29/16
We started out the day without two lap warm up and dynamic stretches. Our workout today was a fartlek which is actually one of my favorite workouts. The whole fartlek ended up being 3.5 miles. We did the first half on football's hilly practice field and the second half on the track. Once we finished we did a mile cool down on the track.
Total miles: 5

Tuesday 8/30/16
Today we had a 2 lap warmup, 8 mile recovery run, core, and then weights after school. We ran with the varsity boys for part of the run and got a little crazy on mile 4 and split 6:50. After that we backed off and decided we actually needed to go recovery pace even though I was feeling really good. We came back from our run and had to rush to get ready because the run took us a little over an hour.
Total miles: 8.5

Wednesday 8/31/16
Today was everyone's favorite workout: mile repeats... Said no one ever. We had 4-mile repeats and a two lap warmup on the track. We really focused on hitting all of our splits for the first three and then on the last one we just gave it everything we had left in the tank. My first mile was 6:11, second mile was 6:04, third mile was 5:54, and my last mile was 5:41. After we finished  we did a mile cool down to finish out the workout.
Total miles: 5.5

Thursday 9/1/16
We had another hard workout today which was a 2 lap warmup, 2 1000's, a 3-mile EPR, and 2 more 1000's. This workout was one of the hardest we have had in a while, but I was happy when I was done with it because I was able to negative split all of my 1000's and had a really good EPR. After the workout, we did an easy 2 lap cool down on the track. Later today our whole team had a pasta party (which are always super fun) to fuel up before our race on Saturday!
Total miles: 6.4

Friday 9/2/16
Today was pre-race day!! We did our usual easy 3 miles on our 3-mile loop, came back, did some strides and took an ice bath! Usually, we have a team building activity on pre-race day, but we had team pictures before we ran.Tomorrow is our season opener at Marcus 1 so we went to check out the course after school because there had been some changes that were made to it, plus it's always good to see the course before you race.  Marcus 1 is always a really fun and competitive meet and I know everyone is excited to get the season started!
Total miles: 4

Saturday 9/3/16
Today was our first race of the season at Marcus 1! I love this meet because it has some of the best competition in the state all in one race! My race went really well and my team ended up taking first in the girls varsity elite division and I placed 4th individually with a PR. This race was a really good indicator of how we want our season to go this year and we are all excited for the rest of the season! After the race we cooled down with an easy mile and a half while we cheered on some of the other members of our team.
Total miles: 4.5

Sunday 9/4/16
Today was a rest day so I just took this day to let my body recover from our race yesterday and roll out any spots where I was feeling especially sore.
