Wendy's Invitational

Charlotte, NC    RESULTS POSTED

On the FL South course, Kimberly Spano (Sr., North Mecklenburg) ran a solo 17:48.

Oakton boys and girls traveled to Charlotte for this weekend's Wendy's Invitational at McAlpine Park, home of the Foot Locker South Regional. The Oakton boys came away as race champions over top teams in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Kentucky, while the Oakton girls took 3rd place in the invitational division.

Oakton boys, ranked #2 in Virginia, ran very impressive up front through four runners with all in the top 20 and ranging in times from 16:03 to 16:15. While running without two of their probably top five runners in Brian Hendricks and Dante Morales, their fifth runner came in a minute later after their fourth to make it a closer team race with Kentucky's Trinity High School trailing 12 points behind Oakton for first. However, the additions of Hendricks and Morales later this season would make Oakton even more formidable after the Wendy's times posted by teammates Neal Hendricks (8th, 16:03), Patrick Fulghum (10th, 16:05), Andrew McCullen (12th, 16:06), and Chris Weil (18th, 16:15).

Lanie Smith led the Oakton girls (3rd, 191 pts) dipping just under 19 minutes for the first time in a 5K race with a 18:59 clocking and 11th place finish in the girls' invitational race.
