Field Event Performances Are Heating Up!

Boys and Girls Pole Vault

There are several events in the state this year that are garnering a lot of attention for how competitive they are in the state and nationally. One that gets overlooked is the girls pole vault. There are four Texans in the top ten in the U.S. for the pole vault. The pole vault is really heating up with these four girls going over 13 feet. The thing about it is Smithson Valley's COLLEEN CLANCY is the only senior of that group. Clancy leads the other 13 footers in height with her 13-7 as well as in experience as she placed second at state two years in a row. Clancy isn't the only state medalist of the group as NASTASSJA CAMPBELL earned 3rd in 5A, ANNA CATHRYN GRIFFIT won 4A, and MAKENZIE HAYWARD took the 6A crown last year over Clancy. As Texas Relays approaches and State soon afterwards, we should definitely see these girls doing big things.

On The boys side, RILEY RICHARDS is the U.S. top outdoor vaulter. Richards leads a quartet of Texas 16 footers that are behind his 17-3. We've seen these guys and others on the list vault sky high last season and this indoor season as well. Is the state record in jeopardy, or will it survive this season?
