So, the regular season ended a few weeks ago and now it is championship season time. This time of year is when teams start to lose some of their athletes after they do not qualify and some teams eventually see their seasons come to an end.
Two boys teams who do not expect to see their season end until the last weekend of the season are the DeSoto Eagles and the Manvel Mavericks. DeSoto and Manvel placed 1-2 in the 2016 UIL State Championships with DeSoto winning by four points 54-50 over Manvel. This season, Manvel drops down to 5A and will be in a tough battle again for the team championship in that class, as DeSoto still has it's 6A competitors to try to conquer.
Both DeSoto and Manvel have shown that they are two of the deepest and most talented teams in the state of Texas, as well as in the nation. In both Texas and in the nation there are tons of teams that have powerful relays or good in the sprints or good in the field. There are also teams who are deep and who are good, however these two teams have state and national level talent. Both squads have sprint depth individually and in the relays. Field events are strong with DeSoto being a little deeper scoring wise in the field and then Manvel scores big in the distance events.
The two teams have already competed head to head in two relay meets and each race was exciting between the two. Unless they hook up at a post season meet, there will be no more opportunities to see the head to head battle for this season.
Who do you think has the best team this season, DeSoto or Manvel? Go VOTE!
