Alex Maier Will Not be Racing in The 1600m at State

The 6A Boys 1600m race at the Region 1 - 6A Meet.

Earlier in the season, I made the prediction that Alex Maier would be racing both the 1600m and the 3200m at the UIL State Meet this year. My prediction was proven wrong at the Region 1 - 6A meet.

Region 1-6A had a loaded field as far as Texas distance running is concerned and there was a mid race collision. Maier went down hard and fast. It appears he was able to avoid injury as other runners were able to avoid what could have been a serious catastrophe with injuries to Maier and themselves.  Although he quickly recovered and got up and back to running, with quality level of runners in the field, Maier was only able to finish in 10th place with a 4:28. That 4:28 is Alex's worst time this season by far.

Maier is still be going to compete at state as he will race in the 3200m race, but the field in the 1600m will be different without him. He is currently ranked #7 in the nation in the 1600m and hopefully, he will have the ability to run the race again at other meets later this season.

The1600m at state will still be a race you don't want to miss. The rest of Texas' best will line up to provide one of the best 1600m races of the season.
