Analysis: After all that he was able to accomplish last year, the top returner could be no other than Maier. Last season, Maier made a big improvement from his freshman year performances. In no way was he a slouch, but to become the top sophomore in the country and arguably one of the top five cross overall runners in the nation is significant. Maier dominated everyone but two individuals all season. In Texas, only All-Americans DANIEL BERNAL, SAM WORLEY, and REED BROWN were really able to beat him. Maier ran a blitzering 14:43.33 5K at the UIL 6A state meet for the runner-up. He then took fourth at NXN South, third at Foot Locker South, and then placed fifth in both national finals.
How do you top that? I'm not sure if it is possible. Certainly, Maier wants to win the UIL 6A state title sooner than later and continue his successful running on the national level. We should definitely be in for a treat this season as Maier Gets started soon.
