State Championship Girls 4-A Preview

Why: Will it be #4 for Bandera, or will someone be able to dethrone them? They won the Region IV with a good team run with a 12:11 average and only a 40 second split.Their regional challenge came from La Feria who is looking to give it another shot at topping Bandera.

Individuals: Alvarado sophomore Emily Garcia took the 4A title last year as a freshman and she is also having a strong sophomore campaign. She ran away with the Region I race, but there are four other girls who have dipped under twelve minutes this season. La Feria sophomore Dariana Vasquez will bring her 11:51 PR to the state meet just seconds off of Garcia's top time. Bandera has two experienced runners who will try to take down Garcia and get low points for their squad. Senior Alia Henderson and junior Ashlyn Persyn are Bandera's one and two runners and have the experience to challenge for the title. Last year, Persyn placed eighth and Henderson place 16th, but watch out if they can keep contact until the last half mile. Boerne junior Emma Stauber also is a sub twelve girl and will also be running for team points.
