Makenzie Hayward Is Vaulting At A National Level

Flower Mound Marcus junior pole vaulter Makenzie Hayward is off to a great start to the season. Hayward is currently ranked #4 in the nation with her 13-2 jump from the Belton Pole Vault Meet.

With just two meets under her belt in this short season, she is already picking up right where she left off last season. In 2017, Hayward vaulted a personal best of 13-6 at the Region 1-6A Meet. She then went on to take second place at the UIL 6A Track and Field Championships where she also vaulted 13-3.

This weekend, Hayward participated at the Arkansas High School Invitational. Even though she didn't quite get over 13 feet, she still got a victory with a 12-10.25 and her second victory of the young 2018 season.

Hayward is not new to big meet performances. Over the summer, she won the USATF Region 12 Championship. As already stated, she second at the state meet in 2017, but before she was the state champ as a freshman back in 2016.
