Edwards compete at the 2017 New Balance Outdoor Nationals
Eric Edwards has made no secret what he wants to accomplish this indoor season and he appears to gradually be more prepared for it race by race.
Edwards won the 60H finals at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic when he said, "I'm trying to break Trey Cunningham's record 7.40," on that day, Edwards went 7.78. Yesterday, at the Texas Tech Under Armour HS Classic, Edwards dazzled the crowd in a meet record and PR of 7.66.
Edwards qualified for the final after hurdling a smooth and swift 50m before shutting it down and coasting the last 10m of the race.
However, he had quite the challenge ahead of him with a very capable field. The best hurdlers in Texas and many of them proving to be some of the best in the country this indoor season.
From the prelims, the top nine times were all 8.18 and under. The finals provided five sub 8:00 times.
Edwards dropped .12 off his previous national leading time is now only .26 behind the national record, which is the most telling sign. He and his coaches will be able to move forward and analyze what and where he can shave those minimum yet crucial tenths and hudredths of a second.
