Friday Evening Was The Bailey And Bailey Show

Neither Bailey Lear, the senior nor Bailey Goggans, the freshman had won a UIL state title before.

Tonight, things changed.

Bailey Lear has been one of the top female quarter milers for years, but a state championship managed to elude her.

Bailey Goggans hadn't even competed in a UIL state event until today to have even had a shot to earn one for herself.

On Friday afternoon, Goggans lined up for the UIL 5A 800m. When the gun shot off, she took off. Goggans blazed a 60 second split for the first 400m generating herself a 15m lead heading into the second lap. She would finish the race in 70 crossing the line first with a 2:10.10 for her first state title.

With most of the state getting their first live look at Goggans in an open event, she definitely lived up to the hype. She would later hit the track again in the 5A girls 400m and take third in 55.33 to add her second state meet medal.

In that same 400m race was Lear. Lear had been on this stage before and let a state championship slip through her fingers two times as she finished runner-up in 2015 and 2016.

This year, she was not about to let that happen again. Lear had not lost a 400m race in two years and that streak was not about to end today. Right off the back she took off and as she hit the back stretch she hit the wind head on and brought the race home on the home stretch.

Then, it finally happened. Lear crosse the finish line first for the first time at Mike A. Myers stadium in the 400m.

Like Goggans did earlier, Lear would soon return to hit the track again. With a gold medal already solidified, she would take on the state's top sprinters in the 200m. Finishing in a 23.74, she would earn herself yet another silver medal. This time, silver didn't matter because she already got what she longed for.

Bailey Lear is a senior and her UIL career has come to an end, while Bailey Goggans' has just begun. The two careers are at two totally ends of the stick, but today, they both concluded with happy golden endings.
