Brenham's Matthew Spahn Passes Away

Former Brenham High School athlete Matthew Spahn passed away of his injuries from the pedestrian/auto accident from last week

It is with heavy hearts to report that Matthew Spahn, graduate of Brenham High School passed away. Our prayers and condolences go out to his family, friends, as well as the Brenham High School and community.

Below is a statement released by Brenham head cross country coach Trenton Hall.

After courageously fighting for 10 days, Matthew Spahn completed his final lap on Wednesday, October 17 at 11:10 AM.  He will be remembered by his friends and family as the scrappy underdog with a big heart.  He was a friend to everyone.  Former teammates and classmates talk about he would stand up for them when no one else would.

He was never intimidated by the competition and would always find himself at the front of the pack.  Despite being shorter than the competition, he would never be hidden in the middle of the pack because he always found himself at the front of it.

As an organ donor, Matt will continue to be a hero to others. He will fight on as someone will be the recipient of the heart of a champion.

Funeral services are pending and there will be a Matthew Spahn 5K Memorial Run on Sunday, October 28th at 5:00 PM on the Hillacious course at Brenham High School.  The cost is $25 and proceeds will go to the Spahn family to help with medical and funeral expenses.  https://www.facebook.com/events/305915740234922/

2 Timothy 4:7-8 NIV I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
