Herston named assistant track and field coach

Sam Houston State track and field team has announced the hiring of assistant coach Keith Herston, who will be in charge of the multi-events and jumps.

Herston was a volunteer assistant coach at Auburn where he worked with the men's and women's javelin throwers and the multi-events. He also assisted with daily operations, including NCAA compliance, team travel and budget.

"Keith is a hard worker and he came highly recommended from the Auburn program," said head coach Dave Self. "He has had a lot of exposure to national level and Olympic caliber athletes that he worked with at Auburn. He brings a lot of enthusiasm to the program and I think he will be a great fit."

Herston is a 2007 graduate of Alabama where he got his Bachelors degree in Human Environmental Sciences and was a member of the track and field team, competing in horizontal jumps. He was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. He received his Masters degree from Auburn.
