Michael Courtney won the 400 meter dash and was the top collegiate competitor in the 200. The senior who will complete his Sam Houston career with this year's indoor season posted a 48.28 in the 400 and finished behind only an unattached runner in the 200 with a time of 22.02

Freshman Roger Rueweler placed third in the 800m run with a mark of 1:58.88. John Thomas (8.13) and Scottie Jones (8.20) both qualified for the final six in the 60 meter hurdles. Jones ended up in fourth place.

For the women, Jessica Fisher put on a pair of outstanding performances, finishing as the runner-up in the 200 meter dash in 25.01 seconds and placing fifth in the 60 meter dash with a mark of 7.68 seconds.

Sam Houston hurdlers Jordan Heggie and Ty Spiller were the top two collegiate finishers in the 60 meter hurdles. Heggie posted a time of 8.74 seconds while Spiller was right behind at 8.75.

The Bearkats also had several top performances in the field events.

Christina Webb won the women's shot put (45 feet, 8.5 inches) and was runner-up in the weight throw (50 feet, 8.75 inches). Jenny Zoch placed second in the shot (44-2.0) and third in the weight throw (48-6.75).

Ambra McCuin finished third in the triple jump with a performance of 39 feet, four inches. Kristi Hermes was fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet 5.75 inches.

For the men, Jason Russell won the weight throw with a toss of 54 feet, 6.5 inches. Artis Edwards was the top collegiate competitor in the triple jump with a mark of 49 feet, 4.25 inches. Chris Gilbert (23-8.25) and Edwards (23-6.75) placed third and fifth, respectively in the long jump.

The final warm-up meet for the Southland Conference indoor championships will be the LSU Twilight Invitational in two weeks. The Southland meet will be held in Norman, Oklahoma at the University of Oklahoma's indoor facility on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27.
