JAMES, HART, MATSON, OLSON, RITTER INDUCTED INTO TEXAS TRACK & FIELD COACHES ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME

Wylie, TX; January 8, 2012 – Clyde Hart, Earnest James, Randy Matson, Billy Olson, and Louise Ritter are the newest members of the Texas Track & Field Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame, comprising the association’s third class.  Inducted in a ceremony at the Crowne Plaza-Addison as part of the Track & Field Coaches Clinic of Texas, the 5 legends / pioneers of track & field were celebrated by friends, family and TFCCT attendees.

Hart, Baylor’s legendary 400 coach and current Director of Track & Field, was presented by former TCU distance coach John McKenzie.  Earnest James, DFW legendary high school coach, was presented by his former athlete and current Wilmer-Hutchins track coach, Cedric Ingram. 

Randy Matson, whom many call the greatest shot putter ever, was presented by former A&M coach and current M-F Athletics sales rep Ed Marcinkiewicz, while former world-record vaulter Billy Olson was presented by his former training partner and current business partner, Brad Pursley.  Louise Ritter, America’s greatest female high jumper, was presented by her high school summer coach, Doug Cockerham. 

Hall of Famers present at the induction included Herb Sheaner (2010), Bill Melton – the evening’s Emcee (2010), Max Goldsmith (2010), and Michael Carter (2011).  BoomerJack’s restaurants sponsored the Hall of Fame awards. 

Also celebrated were the Athletes of the Year – Jennifer Madu (Plano East) and Jaylon Hicks (Galena Park North Shore) and the Coaches of the Year – June Villers (DeSoto) and Greg Williams (Lancaster).
