Clark track coach Bobby Allen shook the ice water from his hat and polo shirt with a wide grin on his face. In the final 1,600 relay, the Broncos finished second and the Cougars took fifth just enough to carry Clark to the title. He's a friend and a really fast guy, so I guess I'm lucky he was hurt, said Blake, who will play football at Florida State. Jay junior Joshua Reynolds dominated in the 300 hurdles (38.2 seconds) and ran the anchor leg of the Mustangs' 1,600 relay win. The Falcons won the 800 and 1,600 relays and were buoyed by a strong showing in Thursday's field events, highlighted by Samantha Turner shattering the district record in the shot put (43 feet, 7 inches). 'Northeastern University sophomore Eric Jenkins shocked everybody--even himself--when he became the only true freshman to qualify for the NCAA Division I outdoor nationals in the 1500m during the spring 2011 season. Why the surprise? His 3:46.04 qualifying mark in late May was more than 10 seconds faster than his best high school time, and the 8:37.69 3K he'd run during his freshman fall gave little indication that he'd blaze such a mark in the spring.

Abstract
Some states are consistently faster than others at high school cross country running. To use a recent example, in 2011, a New Jersey boy won the individual title at nationals in San Diego and a team from the same state won the team competition in Oregon. People often speculate that reasons ranging from climate to tradition affect running speeds above all else. Moreover, some suspect that the states that excel at running are simply the wealthiest ones. This paper aims to find if wealthier states are, in fact, faster than poor ones.

Runners usually don’t develop into sprinters. Speed is often a gift that comes unwrapped at a young age. Aldrich Bailey, a senior at Mansfield Timberview in Arlington, Texas, has that gift. He made that known the summer after finishing the fifth grade when the young speedster blazed through 200 meters in about 25 seconds.
