Collegiate Meet Previews
There are no significant action in the HS ranks this week so we will focus on Texas Collegiate Indoor Track. There are 5 main meets this weekend. Houston Indoor Invitational/ is essentially a pre-southland conference meet with most of the Texas teams competing against each other. Washington Invitational will feature Baylor, Texas Tech, and SMU. Keep an eye on the Nebraska Husker Invitational. It features athletes from Baylor and UTEP. United Heritage Invitational in Idaho should feature athletes from Texas Tech and University of Texas. Kentucky Invitational will feature Texas A&M. This was a big weekend for College. As Texas Collegiate teams competed across the nation. The meets included Razorback Invite, Mcneese State Indoor Invitational, Texas Tech Indoor Classic, Blue & Orange Classic. The only HS action come from the east coast at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games where the Southlake Carroll Dynamic Duo competed in the Mile. Gatorade Selects Texas Runners of the Year
Boys & Girls Gatorade State Runners of the YearPress Release (Rise Magazine)January 10, 2008 In its third decade of honoring the nation's best high school athletes, Gatorade has announced its 2007-08 Boys & Girls Cross Country Runners of the Year. Gatorade and RISE teamed up to name State Boys & Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award winners representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Each State Runner of the Year winner becomes a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys or Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award, which will be announced in mid-January. State winners are selected not only for their outstanding athletic performance, but also for meeting high academic-achievement standards while demonstrating exemplary personal character on and off the racecourse. National winners become finalists for the prestigious Gatorade Male or Female High School Athlete of the Year Award, presented at a special ceremony the afternoon prior to The ESPY Awards in July. The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one award winner in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track and field. Top Milers Commit to Boston Indoor Games
Global Athletics officially announced today the elite boys mile field for the Boston Indoor Games on January 26. The mile field may very well be the best boys mile field assembled during the indoor track season, with four of the top five finishers at Foot Locker Nationals participating and four of the top six returnees in the event from last spring. Elite Boys Mile Field- Mike Fout (IN) - Foot Locker National champion- Charles White (CO) - 2007 Indoor National Mile champ- Luke Puskedra (UT) - Fifth place FLN finisher- Colby Lowe (TX) - Fourth place FLN finisher- Chris Derrick (IL) - Second place FLN finisher- Mac Fleet (CA) - Top junior returnee; 4:08.09c as soph.- Joseph Franklin (FL) - 4:07.36 1600m in 2007- Cory Leslie (OH) - 7th at USATF Juniors in 2007; 4:09.47c mile- C.J.
