Argyle Liberty Christian junior ELIZABETH RENEAU qualified for NXN individually last cross country season. This season, she is picking up right where she left off. Reneau has been the top performer in TAPPS for the last several year and is once again at the top of rankings. In fact, she has already dropped a PR with her 17:31.00 at Marcus I Invitational.
Reneau isn't the only TAPPS girl running well this season. She leads six girls who have already gone 19:00 and under. The thing is, the distance ran at the TAPPS state meet is only 2 miles, so the girls and programs running the 5K distance seem to have more of a purpose to their season than just the TAPPS season.
What can't be overlooked is the kind of season Dallas Ursuline Academy (DUA) is having. They look like they are in line for another TAPPS 6A team state title by the way they have been running the 5K. Led by CAROLINE MILLER and ELISE WELCH, the DUA squad has five girls in the top ten and six girls under 20 minutes in the 5K. They're ranked #8 in the state regardless of classification or division with a 19:02 team average.
If you thought TAPPS girls were enjoying the 2017 season, look at the boys. The boys are running elite times as well. In fact, they're making state wide waves and national waves as well. The top TAPPS spot belongs to Fort Worth Christian's CARTER CHEESEMAN
. Who? Carter Cheeseman. He transferred in from Brentwood Academy out of Tennessee. Cheeseman comes to Texas as an established and successful runner. His junior season and first as a TAPPS athlete already sees him ranked #2 in TX and #9 in the U.S. with his 15:01.70 at the Southlake Carroll Invitational
Also running well is Argyle Liberty Christian's JORDAN GLEDHILL
. Before this season, Gledhill had a
17:12.09 5K PR. Two weeks ago at the Marcus I Invitational
, he PRed by a minute and 24 second in just the second meet of the season.
