Just like the girls sophomore class, there is also a chance for a national champion to come from the group of sophomore boys. As freshmen, this group saw ALEX MAIER have a super sophomore season. Maier paraded around Texas and national courses showing that he was a force.
This season, these sophomores can do the same thing. In fact, the current 5K leader did some of that himself, last year. As a freshman, GRAYDON MORRIS came into high school knocking guys off meet after meet and he was able to qualify for the Foot Locker Nationals. He became only the second freshman to do so out of the South Region and the first in a long time. Morris definitely wants to continue to add to his freshman year accomplishments.
There are other sensational sophomore runners on the list including Maier's teammate. That's right, Flower Mound has another sophomore that can possibly make a national level run this season. JARRETT KIRK had a 17:01 PR last year and now he has three consecutive sub 16:00 races including an awesome 15:12 performance two weeks ago.
After Morris and Kirk, RAYMON GONZALEZ of Del Rio rounds out the top three. He checks in with a 15:37.23 PR, but that's not all for the class. There are 12 boys in the sophomore class with sub 16:00 times.
