Eric Edwards hurdles towards a new Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic meet record

Houston Langham Creek senior Eric Edwards ended last year in an amazing fashion. He won a UIL 6A state title, TTFCA Meet of Champions, Great Southwest Classic, USA Juniors, and the Pan American Juniors title. In fact, Edwards only lost two 110H races during the outdoor season and those were two second place finishes at Texas Relays and at New Balance Outdoor Nationals.

The last two meets of the 2017 season were indicative of how Edwards' first meet of 2018 would begin. In the next to last meet of his season at the USATF Junior National Outdoor T&F Championships, Edwards would set the Junior Class National record in the 110H with a 13.32. In his last race, at the Pan-American Junior Athletics Championships, Edwards would go on to represent his country and win the gold medal. At the same time he beat the two individuals that handed him the two losses on the outdoor season.

This past weekend, to kick start his senior season, Edwards won another gold medal and set a Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic meet record. Edwards said, "It feels really nice. I've been coming here since I was a freshman, my senior year just being able to leave my name at this school as the meet record it's a great accomplishment."

To really go out and perform that way in your first indoor meet this season shows that you're no joke."

With this just being the beginning, the question should be asked -- how fast will Edwards go? He already holds the fastest 60H time run by a Texan over the last decade in the month of January.

MileSplit Editor Cory Mull thinks Edwards can break the national record. Mull said, "I think he has one of the best chances to possibly go after a national record. To really go out and perform that way in your first indoor meet this season shows that your no joke."

Is Mull reading Edwards' mind? This weekend, Edwards said "I'm trying to break Trey Cunningham's record of 7.40."
