Meet Information
Angel "Flight" Cross Country Meet
We invite you to participate in our 1
st Annual Angel Flight Meet. The Flight Score Meet is a unique variation of
traditional cross country. This rarely used, but distinctive format is very appealing to coaches, runners, and fans.
Runners do not start together as an entire team, rather a single numbered runner from each team competes head-to-
head with the same numbered runners from the other teams, i.e., all of the number five runners from each team
start at the same time in one flight, then all the number fourth runners depart in a second flight a few minutes
later, then the number threes, twos, threes, and finally the ones. Scoring is based on finish position within each
flight, first in ones flight equals one point, second equals two, etc. An exciting aspect is the posting of race-by-
race scoring updates during the action showing the ebb and flow of competition, lead changes, and what is
needed to win!
Course: on the IWA Training site at Our Lady of Corpus Christi (1200 Lantana St, Corpus Christi, TX 78407)
Course is a mixture of dirt/grass and slightly rolling terrain. Boys will run 1.52 miles and the Girls will run 1 mile.
Awards - Gear bags to Top A team; individual medals to each flight winner. Individual medals to top 10 in
Division B
Cost: $50 per school . Check made out to: Incarnate Word Academy
RACE SPECIFICS
Flight Numbers: runners will have a flight number and a bib number with tear tag indicating school, team
number, and division. Runners may run only one flight race for their team.
Fluid Scoring: we will update and post team scores after each flight race.
Inclement Weather: we will run the meet in all weather. Delay start only if lightning in the immediate area per
meet director on-site decision.
Declaration - very important: coaches, you must be fully prepared to declare your one through seven runners at
on-site meet registration, have your order ready upon arrival. You may not change the order of your flight score
teams runners after start of the meet.
SCHEDULE Start Times rolling schedule, times are best estimates. We may adjust in order to prevent
excessive overlap on the course
Meet will be LIMITED to 8 TEAMS
and
schools that are classified as UIL 3A (enrollments of 479) and below.
