Team Favorites

Defending Jesuit-Sheaner Relays 5A division team champion Desoto will face a real challenge from the Keller, Southlake Carroll and the Houston Strake Jesuit teams

Lancaster the perennial 4A meet champion team will face strong competition from Texarkana Texas High and the Ennis track teams. Texarkana placed higher in final team standing in the 4A State Meet last spring than did Lancaster

Entered are the FIRST PLACE boys 5A State Meet Cross Country team champion, Southlake Carroll, along with the # 3 place team Houston Strake Jesuit, # 6 place team 5A team Keller and # 10 place team 5A Plano West  .
 

Individual Favorites:

 

Corsicana's Noah Gilfillan won FIRST PLACE at the 2014 University of Arkansas Indoor High School Pole Vaulting Event. Entered are three Dallas area 15+ foot vaulters along with three area 14+ plus vaulters.

Jumps

Six Long Jumpers that have recorded jumps over 23', only inches from the 1964 meet record of 24' 5" set by Dallas Jesuit's Mike Madigan.  Myron Wyron, Kaufman has the top long jump in the area from last year, a mark of 23' 8".

Dallas area's top Triple Jumper Niko Small, Arlington Bowie. 

Dallas area's top ranked and nationally ranked high jumper, Natron Gipson, Arlington Bowie with personal best of 7'2". *All-American 

Throws

Aaron Akens, North Mesquite area leader in the discus and Sterling Mungro, DeSoto area leader in the shot put will be challenged by Salado's Ryan Simmons who placed second in the discus and shot put in the UIL 2013 State Track Meet.  
Kansas 2013 Male Gaterade T&F athlete of the year Kord Ferguson enters the meet with PRs of 199'-1" and 63'-1"

Sprints

Lakeside High School., Sibley, Louisiana has entered Chris Lewis. Chris Lewis won FIRST PLACE at the 2013 Louisiana State Meet in the 100 meters.  He won FIRST PLACE at the 2014 Houston Carl Lewis Indoor Track Meet in the high school sprint competition. He is Nationally Ranked.  Nationally Ranked Chris Nitreh, Plano East and Richardson's Sterling Jones and Plano West's Austin Sanders are entered in the sprints. Sterling Jones, Richardson has the top time in the area in the 200 meters. 

Middle Distance

Lancaster's Eric Age has the top time in the Dallas area in the 400 meters. Three of the top four 400 meter runners in the Dallas area are entered in the meet, 

Antonio Humphrey, defending Oklahoma State Champion, is coming in with a PR of 1:51.80 placing 3rd in the 2013 USATF World Youth Trials. The top four 800 meter runners in the Dallas area are entered in the meet. Carrollton Newman Smith's Jeffrey Moore has already run 1:53.64 this year.  Justin Northwest's Zach Kirkland comes in with a 1:53.26 time from 2013. Houston Strake runners will also excel in the distance races.
 

Long Distance

Entered are the # 1, # 2, # 3 boy finishers from the 2013 5A UIL Cross-Country State Meet and winners of the 4A and 2A divisions, Carter Blunt, Frisco Heritage and Evan McQuirk, Van Alstyne. 

#1 Houston Strake Jesuit's Frank Lara, # 2 finisher Southlake Carroll, Jacob Pickle and # 3 finisher Keller,Austen Dalquist 

The three top ranked 1600 meter runners in the Dallas area are entered in the meet. Keller's Auston Dalquist, has the best time of 4:10.88, not far off from the meet record of 4:08.90 set in 1967 by Robert Gonzales of Falfurrias. 2013 champion cross country runner Frank Lara from Strake Jesuit is entered and is a threat to the old 1967, 1600 meter record.  

The top two Dallas area 3200 meter runners are entered in the meet along with the State Meet's 5A Cross Country champion Frank Lara from Houston Strake Jesuit and the other runners from Strake Jesuit. Southlake Carroll's Connor Hendrickson had the top area time of 9:10.77.  

Southlake Carroll's 2013 Distance Medley relay team ranked number one in the nation and is Track & Field News All-American
 

Hurdles

Dallas area's top three ranked high hurdlers are entered in the meet headed by DeSoto's Chevis Amstead, Denton Guyer's Jalen Hunter and Frisco Heritages's Emeka Nwangsu.  

The area's top five ranked 300 meter hurdlers are entered in the meet headed by DeSoto's Chevis Armstead
 

Relays

The area's top teams are entered in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Longview placed second in the 4x100 in the 2013 State Meet and South Grand Prairie placed sixth in the 4x400 relay in the State Meet.  DeSoto had the top boy relay teams in the state and was ranked near the top in all the relays in the nation in 2013 until misfortunes hit them. DeSoto will be favorites again in the relay events. There will be plenty of competition here.
 

 

 

Meet Notes: Girls 

 

For the first time in the 50 year history of the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays, Girls teams have been invited to the meet. Eight of the State's top girl track teams have been invited to the meet and are entered in the 50th Anniversary of the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays.

Team Favorites

Entered are UIL 5A State Meet Champions DeSoto, Runner-up Garland and 5th place Cedar Hill;   3A State Meet GIRLS Team Champion Frisco Lone Star.  4AFrisco Heritage and Forney Girl teams finished in the top ten teams in the 2013 State Meet
 

Individual Favorites:

Justin Northwest's  pole vaulter, Desiree Freier, a High school All American girls pole vaulter will be trying to set a new national record in the girl pole vault. She is only a few inches away from the national record.

Long Distance

The "Elite Girls 1600 Meter race" again, will have the top girl distance runners in the state entered.

Hurdles

Two event State Meet champion Kiana Hawn, 4A Forney High school, will challenge the top 5A girls for first place medals

Field Events:

Two event TAPPS State Meet Champion and area leader Christina Harris, Bishop Lynch, will challenge the top 5A girls for first place medals

Relays

5A State Meet relay teams: 2nd place team DeSoto, 4th place team Cedar Hill and 5th place team Skyline and 2nd place 3A UIL State Meet finisher Frisco Lone Star are entered in the 4x100. That is a lot of speed.
