Texas is Back! Blowing up National Rankings at A&M Classic

Girls Mile
Breakdown: Both the boys & girls Mile's produced fantastic races to watch. Southlake Carroll has been a force in Texas distance running a long time, and they dominated the girls results. Jordan Welborn found herself in a tough situation, at the head of the race with two Southlake teammates. Sarah Odneal and Rianna Randolph were working together, setting the pace in the lead, putting Welborn at a disadvantage on her own. Welborn ran a smart, tactical race. She moved into the lead coming off the 1st curve on the 2nd to last lap, then with 300m to go, she put in a huge surge that quickly opened a gap. Odneal and Randolph couldn't respond to the change of pace, and Welborn extended her lead to the finish coming in just under 5:10.

Girls 2 Mile
Breakdown: The girls 2 Mile split up and a small pack established itself at the front of the race about half way through. Brooke Gilmore led for almost all 16 laps, running the 2 Mile early Saturday morning before she would return to double in the 1 Mile later on. Sara Claycomb and Cassidy Adams were right on Gilmore's heels the entire way, but lurking at the back was Taylor Price. Gilmore would put in surges during the race, and each time Price would briefly fall off the back, but each time she stayed calm and gradually worked her way back on. Price made her move with 100m to go, unleashing a brutal kick that shot her into the lead, Gilmore fought hard down the home stretch, but Price was able to hold off the late attack for the win.
