Salute To Seniors: Roderick Bell

Roderick Bell - Katy Seven Lakes

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable race would have to be this year when my team made it to the state meet getting 4th overall!! This meant so much to me because we have came such along way from the past year and even though we didn't get the top 3 finish we wanted I couldn't be more proud of the guys, so state cross country was the most memorable race for me as well as state track when I finished off my season with a pr of 9:17!!

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

There has been a lot of great athletes in the state of Texas through out my past 4 years which has gaven me the opportunity to have a lot of competition. But I would have to say my biggest competition through those four years would have to be my self, because I would always have to challenge myself each day to be better than I was the day before in order to achieve the goals I have set for my self.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment through out my high school running Career. Would be this year at the regional track meet, when I qualified for the state meet in the 2 mile. Everybody dreams of making it to the state meet for track, unlike cross country were a lot of ppl qualify for the state meet only 2 qualify for track!! So being able to accomplish that was such a blessing.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I could do my high school running career all over again I would of definitely have bought into the program earlier than my freshman year. But all in all I had a great high school running career and I'm thankful for the coaching staff and the teammates that I had along the way.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was junior year when our team at a lot of controversy which caused us to not be able to accomplish the goals we had set for ourselves. So at RATX camp we had a meeting at like 12:00 in the morning just the guys no coaches or anything and we settled everything put all our disputes aside so we can have a chance for a state title.

What will you miss the most?

When I go to college next year I will miss my team mates the most there always gonna be my bros for life and I'm never gonna forget about those guys.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

My advice for younger athletes would to be don't waste a heart beat! Your high school running career goes by so quick and when your time capsule comes to an end you don't want to look back having regrets!

What influence has your coaches had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

An incredible about of influence!! They believed in me from day one when I used to believe I would be an NBA basketball player freshman year lol, but then when I got cut from the team my freshman year they brought me in saying " do cross country your made to be a distance runner", even tho I didn't believe it at the time and just did it so I wouldn't be in PE, I finally realized that they were right and I just wanna thank them for believing in me from the beginning.

What are your college plans?

I'm attending Texas a&m next year to study business and run track and cross country for them.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would defiantly like to give a big shout out to my parents and brother because they have always been there by my side these last four years! Also like to thank the coaching staff at seven lakes high-school and of course the best squad out there aka the " band of brothers" who have always pushed me every run to make me the best runner I could possibly be.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
