Plano Invite: Anna Elkin & Drew Cummings Race Report

Race Report: Anna Elkin

This weekend we ran at the Plano Invitational. It was our first 5K race so we were all really excited to

see what we could run and where we were in our training. Going into the race my plan was to take the race out hard and then try to win. The first mile went out hard, but still not as fast as I would have liked. Abby was with me for the first mile and then I took the lead. I really tried to focus on the second mile and then see what I could do for the last. I won in 18:20 which I was really excited about. One of my biggest goals for this season was to break 18:30 so I was really happy that I was able to achieve that goal this early on in the season. Also, I was really proud of how Abby ran this weekend. We both had 13 second PRs and nothing makes me happier than coming in 1-2 with my best friend. Overall it was a good weekend and I am looking forward to a really good, hard week of training as we prepare for Southlake this upcoming weekend.

Race Report: Drew Cummings

Saturday as most people saw we ran at the Plano invitational. Going into the week we were pretty pumped up because a lot of district competition was going to be there, and it was going to be great to be able to benchmark ourselves against those guys. Leading up to the start, our plan all week was to be really aggressive at the mile and just continue to see how long we could hang on from there. I was able to go out in about 4:46 which was exactly what I was hoping for on a course like we had, but hanging on was little bit more tough and I ended up dropping back to 5th overall. Our team on the other hand also had a bunch of guys really get after the first mile. We might not have seen the placing we hoped for, but all of us are confident that if we continue to go out hard we can continue to hang on later on in the season.
