Tyler Guillory talks about his pre race ritual and the movie Cars

Over the winter break, we were able to catch up with one of the top returning hurdlers Tyler Guillory of Cypress Falls.  Check out our Q and A with Guillory.

TX MileSplit:  Last year, we saw you running fast and well then to have your school season ended at the regional meet due to injury.  How were you able to cope with the disappointing end of your season.

Tyler:  For the longest time I wasn't coping.  I usually spend most of my week at track practice, so being injured and at home most of the time was pretty saddening.  I didn't know what to do most days, but with the strict rehab regiment and support of my friends, family, and coaches I was back out on the track in no time.

TX Mile Split:  Were there any lessons that you learned from that situation?

Tyler:  From the injury, I learned that you can never have too much water and that stretching well before and after running is essential.

TX MileSplit:  What are your goals for this season?

Tyler I want to go 13.5 in the 110H and 36 in the 300H.

TX MileSplit:  What is it like having a training partner like Isaiah Lucas with you every day in practice?

Tyler:  It's great! Our practices are pretty competitive so, so it helps to have the top boys and girls hurdlers in the state there practicing with you.

TX MileSplit:  Which hurdle race is your favorite and why?

Tyler I love the 110H.  Sprinting is just so fun to me!!!

TX MileSplit:  Do you have any pre meet/race rituals?  If so, what are they?

Tyler:  Before every race, I always say the ABCs twice and then "Float like a Cadillac, sting like a Beamer", which is probably my favorite quote from the movie Cars and is also a reference to the Muhammad Ali quote, "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."

TX MileSplit:  Next year, the new super hero movie Batman vs. Superman comes out.  Who wins a battle between the two and why?

Tyler:  Batman, obviously.  He's got the brains and the know how.  He could take down Superman or anyone for that matter any day of the week.
