Race Report: Anna Elkin Reflects On Texas Relays!

Race Recap By: Anna Elkin

Last Friday I raced at TX Relays!! I was so excited for this race because it's my favorite regular season meet to go to. I was also really looking forward to running an individual race for the first time and getting the opportunity to race some of the fastest girls in the state and girls from other states as well. Going into the race my plan was the same as most races. From the time the gun went off I wanted to get in front and take it out hard, but I had a really bad start and I didn't execute the plan as I had hoped. I led the race for the first couple of laps but ended up placing 4th with a time of 4:58. I was kind of disappointed with the end result, but I definitely learned a lot from the race. For me one of the biggest things I've been working on this season is not getting too high or too low after races. I think it's okay to be upset because it wasn't the result I wanted but I know that I just need to learn from the race and use it as motivation for the races to come. Overall, TX Relays was an awesome experience and I was really lucky that I got the opportunity to race at such a big meet. Also, congrats to the sprinters, other distance girls, and Antonio, one of our throwers, on their success this weekend!! It is really cool getting to watch some of your best friends race and compete against some of the best in the country! Lastly, big shoutout to my friends and teammates that made the trip down to Austin to watch me run. I'm so thankful for all of their support & it made me so happy to see them in the stands this weekend, they rock!!!
