Jasmine Moore Breaks Freshman National Record

It only took two jumps for Mansfield Lake Ridge freshman Jasmine Moore to make history. Last night at the Texas Class 5A state meet, she broke the triple jump national freshman class record with a wind-legal leap of 42-01.75. The mark is the No. 2 wind-legal jump in the nation this year.

The record breaking leap is a huge improvement on her prior best of 41-00.5.

The previous record was set by fellow Texan Ychlindria Spears of Luling in 1999.

According to the Texas Track and Field Coaches Association, "Spears is the most decorated track & field athlete in Texas history, amassing 14 gold and 2 silver state medals and a team state championship where she earned 42 of Luling High School's 48 points." Spears is also the former national high school record holder in the triple jump (44-02.25).

Moore's impressive state meet progression only had one jump under 40 feet.

Moore will now turn her attention to the long jump on Friday at 12:00 pm where she is aiming for a "20-PR." The 5A State record in the long jump is 20-10.25 and the State Meet record is also held by Yclindria Spears at 21-03.25. Moore's best so far this season is 20-0 (all conditions).
