Monday Minute Write Up

With the State meet wrapping up the regular season, we've now moved on to the postseason kicking things off in a big way with the Meet of Champs!

The races at the meet of champs featured some of the best athletes in Texas. It's a true throw down regardless of class, or league, we had1A's mixing it up with 6A's, mixing it up with homeschool athletes, SPC, and TAPPS State champs! Anyway to the first event of the day the steeple... in the guys race, we saw the best in the state of Texas battling it out. The race came down to a final Kick at the end with Grant Tiff taking the win with a new meet record and PR of 6:12.19.

The next thriller came in the 800m races. In the girls race, we saw Julia Heymach and Aaliyah Miller battling it out. Heymach took it out strong but it was Miller who would take the win in the end with a new nation-leading time of 2:06.06.

In the boys 800m we had the chance to see Turkey Valley sophomore Jake Merrell battle it out against the seniors in undefeated Bryce Hopple and speed demon Sam Worley. All three ran 1:51 or faster but it was Hoppel who took the win running 1:49 for a second time in a row!

The next thriller was in the 400m races. On the girls side, we got to see a true clash of champions with 6A state champion Mariah Kuykendoll face off against 5A state champion and Freshmen Whitney Williams. Kuykendoll started with slight led and advantage but in the final 200m, Williams came back strong to pull out the win.

The boys 400m was the highly anticipated match up as well with Keshun Reed and Jostyn Andrews. Reed would take the win in this one dropping a new U.S. number four-time of 46.11. That was after running a workout that morning.

Both the 1600m races were blazing fast. In the girls we again got to see a 5A -6A matchup between Abby Gray and Julia Heymach. Heymach doubled back after running the 800m to run a 4:44.86. She also pulled Gray through for a new PR and Texas number two-time of 4:45.87.

In the guys 1600m we got to see six guys run sub 4:20 led by Bryce Hoppel who dropped a 4:11.90 after winning the 800m earlier in the day.

We also have to give a shout out to Maddie Borman and Harry Bellow who both took home wins in the Texas Top 40 Mile this weekend in College Station.

That will do it for us this week, but keep it locked on Texas MileSplit for everything track related all summer long! There are lots of events live this summer including the Flo Golden South which will be this weekend in Florida. Some of the top athletes in Texas are heading there to try and nab a Golden ticket to the Brooks PR invitational. So stay tuned and we'll keep you up to date on their progress as well as the biggest news all summer long.......but for now we out!
