Ken Garland / Northwest Invitational 9/17/2016

Happy Race Day everyone! Today we ran at the Ken Garland Invitational at UNT which is a meet we run every year. It's not my favorite meet just because we always have to run so much later than we are used to. We didn't have to leave the school until 6:30 so I guess you could say we got to "sleep in" today. We got to the course early and handed out bibs to everyone and then we waited a while until we started our warm up. All of us started warming up around 8:30, we jogged around the course for a while and then headed back to our tent to put on our spikes. After that, we stretched and did some strides before the race started. It was a lot hotter outside than we were used to racing in which seemed to slow everyone down. The race didn't go exactly how I would've liked it too, but this is just one race and it was a good learning experience. We split up our top 14 and ran two teams in the varsity elite race and the blue team (top 7) took first place and the gold team took 8th. We ended up having our top 7 runners in the top 20! The varsity girls and boys ended up placing 4th in their 3200 race, and the jv girls placed second in their 3200, and the jv boys did really well in their 5k! It was a great day for Keller Cross Country!
