Q and A with Madison Acosta: Breaking Personal Goals and Making Friends

This week, I reached out to Madison Acosta, a sophomore from The Colony High School. Last Weekend Madison earned 9th place at the McNeil Invitational Girls Gold Race with a time of 17:57.97. Madison is currently ranked #13 in the state.

Texas MileSplit: What does an average week of training look like for you?

Madison Acosta: My training includes your basic hard days of running with a few recovery runs, depending on our mileage.

What was the most challenging park of the McNeil Invitational course for you?

The most challenging part of McNeil was probably the start. Our team was right in the middle, which made it difficult because every other team was cutting in as soon as the gun went off. It was hard to get around people because I was boxed in trying to fight my way through.

Who is your biggest inspiration for cross country and why?

My former teammate Andrew Tuma is my biggest inspiration for cross country. Last year he was injured for most of the season but he didn't let that hold him back. He fought his way back and came back stronger than ever. His dedication and hard work inspires me every day to do my best.

What is your favorite course to run on and why?

My favorite course to run on would probably have to be McNeil! This was my second year running at McNeil and it seems to get better every time. There aren't too many hills, and for the most part, it's just a straight path from start to finish.

What is the biggest obstacle you have/have had this season and how did/do you plan to overcome it?

The biggest obstacle this season was trying to brake 18. Each meet I pushed myself to get my time down. After each meet, I would evaluate what I did learning what I had to do for the next. McNeil was the perfect meet with the perfect conditions to break 18. Right before the race I told myself that I was going to brake 18 and sure enough I did!

Have you started looking at colleges yet? If so, what schools are you looking at?

Yes, my first choice would be the University of Oregon. And some of my other choices would be UCLA,A&M,Baylor, and the University of Arkansas.

Who would be on your Dream Team for Cross Country?

My dream team for would include Ashton Endsley, London Culbreath, Carrie Fish, and Abby Riordan.
