The Woodlands Invitational

The Woodlands Invitational was the highlight meet of the weekend. There was an incredible 26 Elite Performances. That is a great showing for two reasons. Number one the weather was less than perfect with windy and cool conditions and number two is still February. Leading the way was a State leading 01:53.91 by Erik Stanley (Klein). Erik went through the first quarter at approximately 55 seconds and ran a 58 and change for his last quarter. Erik is in great shape coming off of his record breaking Cross Country season in which he qualified the the National Cross Country Championships in San Diego.

Staying with the distance events Nichole Jones (Westfield) did it again this week against much tougher competition. Nichole won the 3200 in the afternoon in an impressive 10:55. She was in third for most of the race than shot to the lead with 2 laps to go and sprinted away with the easy victory against tough competition. She came back hours later and was victorious in the 1600 (5:04). She used the same tactics as she did in the 3200. Nichole sat behind the leaders until the gun lap. She easily gapped the field by 20 meters. Callie Wells went for the win with 200 to go and almost caught Nichole in an exciting finish 5:04.64-5:04.96.

The sprinting highlights included Alandra Sherman (Eisenhower). She triumphed in the 100Hurldles in the Elite time of 14.52. In the boys 200m Bobby McCoy (Klein Forest) ran an impressive Elite time of 21.64 in gusty wind conditions.. The field event highlight of the day came from Scott Duckworth (Klein Oak), he pole vaulted 15-07 which is the highest in Texas so far this year.
