Individual champs Reed Connor, Sarah Andrews pace The Woodlands sweep in Texas

Texas X-C State Championship

TEAM TITLE:
The Woodlands came in as a slight favorite to win the title. They really had to have their A game today to get it done. They averaged an outstanding 15:31 5K on a less than perfect day. The wind was gusting up to 20MPH and the dirt did its best impression of west Texas flying around the course.
TEAM SURPRISE:
Katy Seven Lakes really stepped it up today placing 2nd overall. They came in preseason with a high ranking but during the course of the year they were dropping slightly in the polls. They stepped up when it counted today and averaged 15:45 which would probably wins most state meets around the country. Great job Coach Rathke.
INDIVIDUAL TITLE:
Reed Connor had to have the race of his career to take the title today and he did it. Reed's 14:47 ranks 2nd all-time on this course only to Scott MacPherson. Reed looked in control the whole race.
INDIVIDUAL SURPRISE:
Jimmy Welin hit a home run today placing 4th overall with a new personal best of 15:11 after placing 3rd at Region III. Great Job Jimmy.

TEAM TITLE:
The Woodlands won the team title with 61pts. They averaged a season best 11:29 for their top 5 runners. All 5 runners placed in the top 30.
TEAM SURPRISE:
Katy Cinco Ranch ran really well at the state meet. They scored 86pts and averaged 11:42. They were 2nd at the Region III meet to powerhouse Kingwood. Today was their day as they ran well when it counted and now has to be considered a threat for the Nike Team Nationals next week.
INDIVIDUAL TITLE:
Sarah destroyed a great field today. Her 10:44 was 2nd all-time on this course to Erin Bedell. She ran away from one of the best fields ever assembled.
INDIVIDUAL SURPRISE:
Catie Daigre ran a terrific race to place 6th overall. The Freshman placed 4th at Region III and was not projected to be a top 10 runner. She has a bright future ahead of her.
