The Schrader Mile: Daniel Viegra Runs 4:08

A week after kicking his way to the Region 2-6A 1600m title and earning a trip to the 2017 6A state meet, Daniel Viegra puts the state of Texas on notice, running 4:08.68 in the elite Mile at the Schrader 1600. The 6A 1600 is going to be a must see event next Saturday night and is now a three man show! The last Texas high school chapter of the Reed Brown/Sam Worley show had been scheduled and anticipated ever since the beginning of the season and even more so since Texas Relays.

On an atypical evening (weather wise), in an atypical race (race strategy for intended purpose), and an atypical race line up (for a high schooler) Viegra took on a very high level and experienced line up, on Saturday night. Per his performance, he just made things much more interesting, at state. Already known nationally as one of the top high school distance runners, he sent a little reminder that he should not be overlooked in next week's 6A match up, "I can compete with those guys, it's definitely going to be something i'm looking forward to."

Viegra is looking forward to it, and so should we!
