AUSTIN, TX -- The crowd was on its feet early during the University Interscholastic League Class 6A Track and Field Championships Saturday night at the University of Texas.

First up was the 4x100m relays.

But then fans got an even bigger boost from the boys 800m when New Braunfels Canyon High senior Sam Worley went a nation-leading 1:48.25, besting his former US No. 1 time of 1:49.68 just last week.

At the 400m mark, the University of Texas signee came through in the lead with almost the entire pack together.

But at the 600m mark, Worley, along with Cade Bethmann, stated to put distance between themselves and the rest of the field.

With about 110m to go, Worley's stride lengthened. He went into a straight up drive phase as he pulled away from everyone and it was a race against the clock.

At the end of the race, it was a two second PR for Worley as the clock read 1:48.25. That is also a Texas No. 2 all-time mark. Strake Jesuit's Justin Bugg finished second in 1:50.37.

With business still to conduct in the 1600m, Worley then exited the track as fast as he blazed those two laps.
