Senior Salute: Alicia Carter

Athlete: Alicia Carter

Attends: Elsik High School

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable race was at Katy Taylor Relays, my team and I won all of the relays that night including the 4x1 and 4x2. We wanted to take home the gold for the 4x4 as well. Our team and Katy Taylor girls was just fighting for first place and our Freshman anchor got the head tilt and came in first place for the team.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Evette Blanks, Essance Sample, Rachel Hall, Kynnedy Flannel, Ariele Adams

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is making it to State in the 4x1 and 4x2. My team and I were determined to go to State this year. We had to work hard to achieve that goal. With me being anchor leg on the 4x1, I felt like it was my job to bring it home with a PR and being a State Qualifier. Also, having the chance to beat my personal record in the 200 at my future school, Prairie View.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would definitely say I wish I could've ran Summer Track when I was a Freshman on up because I believe that I will have better stamina.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacles I had to overcome was when our 4x4 didn't advance onto Regionals. Everyone was heartbroken and upset that not all three relays advanced on, so everyone just cheered each other up and say it's always a next season. The grind doesn't stop. That night was not only a sad night for my team but also a good night because we were Area Champs.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Do not give up because you think the workouts are too hard to get through. Every sport has workouts that contains difficulty but you have to get through it. It builds character. Always, Always, Try to give it your all. Most importantly, Have fun while running.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

She has taught to have patience while the progress of trying to break your personal record. Everyone's time will come. You will just have to wait on yours.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending and run at Prairie View A&M University. I will be majoring in Health to become a Nurse Practitioner. My goal for the 200 is 23.5 and I want to become the 200m Champion for the SWAC conference for Indoor and Outdoor.

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

I would like to say Thank you to my favorite coach in the world, Coach Kemp. I love you so much and will miss you. Coach Lantz for being the best assistant coach. Coach Zeno for helping me with my blocks. I would also want to thank Ms. Elzy, Ms. Hamlyn, Mrs. Brotherton and the Elsik Administration for believing in me. Last but not least, I would love to Thank my team for these last four years.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Mom. Dad. Ajah. I love you guys so much. You guys mean the world to me. I wouldn't be the person who I am today without yall. I'm going to miss you guys soo much!

What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

This year at the U of H Indoor meet. It was the 4x2 and It was our first meet of the season. Our first time doing the relay together. I was 3rd leg and we're in second place. When I gave the baton to my anchor, I ended up falling while giving the baton. My Anchor was good though. We didn't drop the baton. I just fell in front of thousands of people lol.
