Texas UIL 5A Star Ace Castillo Commits To Rice University


It's official for yet one more Texas distance star. Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway senior Ace Castillo just committed to continue his running career and academics at Rice University.

This weekend, Castillo will be looking to win his first UIL cross country state championship at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock. Castillo has placed second at the state meet both as a sophomore and a junior. 

To go along with his second place finishes at state, he has a 12th place finish at the Nike Cross Nationals South Regionals last season as well as a lifetime 5K PR of 14:56.71.

During his career, Castillo has also found success on the track. He has a 9:22.66 PR in the 3200m and a third place finish last spring. In the 1600m, he as a 4:15.93 PR and a second and third place finish at state.

For now, Castillo will have the remainder of the season to compete in the UIL, but he will soon be takin his talents to Rice University, and Conference USA, and the NCAA.
