Two of Texas' Best Jumpers To Compete Today In Girls Jumps At Clear Falls Knight Relays

The Clear Falls Knight Relays has been one of the most exciting early season meets over the last several years.

Top competitors from around the greater Houston area compete at this meet and excite the knowledgeable track crowd with their performances.

This year, that excitement could start in the field events.

The second ranked triple jump returner from 2017 Koi Johnson from Dickinson will perform this weekend. As a sophomore last year, Johnson jumped all of the way to being one of the top and elite jumpers in Texas. She finished the season off with a 41-4.75 PR at the state meet for third place.

Koi Johnson Athlete Profile

Each year Johnson has improved and jumped further. This weekend will mark the first outdoor competition in the pits for her. She is also one of the top returning long jumpers. Johnson finished fifth last season at the state meet in the long jump.

She has an outstanding 19-6 PR in the event and will definitely be looking to improve that throughout the season and hopefully land on the awards stand in that event at the state meet as well this year.

In the long jump, Johnson will see the top long jump returner in the state in Alvin senior Kynnedy Flannel. Not only is Flannel the top returner, but she is the defending UIL 6A state champion as well as the 6A state record holder. That's right, this young lady can fly and her 21-2.75 proves it.

Flannel got her season started last week in the pits at the John Morris Pearland Invitational where she jumped a 19-11 season opener. Not bad for her, right. Well consider this -- last year at the Knight Relays, Flannel jumped 20-9. How far can she go today?

Kynnedy Flannel Athlete Profile

That's not the only question we should be asking with Flannel. Not only did she win gold and set a long jump record at the state meet, but she also won gold medals in the 100m and 200m to earn two more state titles. In one year, she became a three time state champion....as a junior.

We might see a Texas star shine bright tonight at the Clear Falls Knight Relays if Flannel decides to dazzle us with an early season appetizer and participate in all three events.

One thing is for sure, jump pits will be the place to be with Johnson and Flannel starting the meet off in state meet performer star power type of style!
