When was the last time Del Rio wasn't at the state meet? I'm not sure, but they don't know how to not be good and it's because of runners like Gonzalez.
He had a pretty darn good freshman year in 2016, but last season he blasted out of the gate with some big performances. A 15:37.53 for second place at the FEAST Patriot Invitational definitely opened eyes because he beat some very good guys and some of the San Antonio area's top distance runners and he kept running well all season.
It wasn't just cross country where Gonzalez ran well. He went wild on the track as he ran 1:57.79, 4:22.08, and 9:44.11 for all three distance events. This year, he will be the man at Del Rio due to the graduation of Max Smith. What will he do with that role?
