When you think of Cy Springs, their top notch and national sprint program comes to mind. However, the Houston area school has a very capable distance runner returning this year.
Gonzalez improved each of the last three seasons and he looks to make his senior year memorable. As a sophomore, he placed 81st at the UIL 6A state cross country meet and he drastically improved that finish in 2017 with a 18th place finish in a 15:35.60 PR.
He had a pretty good track season that saw him run 4:26.17 and 9:27.06 at the Texas Relays against some very good competition.
Region III and the Houston area will get very congested for those state qualifying spots, but Gonzalez should get one if he is on his game and continues his progression.
