Legendary Official Yancy 'Doc' Beavers Passes


Yancy "Doc" Beavers - USATF Master Track and Field Official certified

One of the best officials in the sport of track and field has passed. Yancy "Doc" Beavers passed away last week on September 27, 2018 in Houston, Texas.

Beavers was a Master Track and Field official, USA Track & Field certified and participated in an infinite amount of meets over the course of his life. As a USATF master official, Beavers was a familiar voice and face from events ranging from Houston ISD, UIL Region III, and UIL state track and field meets including but not limted to NCAA and USA Olympic Trial meets.

In 2018, he was inducted into the Texas A&M Track and Field Officials Association Hall of Fame.

Countless coaches, athletes, fans, and fellow officials have come across Beavers as he enthusiastically shared his knowledge and experience in track and field in the most professional way possible.

Beavers' presence, knowledge, and love for track and field will be missed.

With serving the sport he loved, he also served his country and is a veteran.

A Military veteran's honorary memorial service is scheduled today, Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:00am - 11:15am for Beavers at the Houston National Cemetery (Memorial Veterans Cemetery) - 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
